About the game

Firefly Drift is a one-button arcade game set in an endless pixel forest at night. You are a small firefly drifting through the dark. Hold to glow and rise, let go to glide back down, and weave between branches, vines, spider webs, owls and puddles.

Your glow is also your only light. The forest stays dark beyond it, so you see branches and webs only when you get close. Glowing burns energy, and a low battery shrinks your light. Catch the little blue fireflies to refill it, and chain them quickly for a combo of up to x5.

Runs are short and easy to start again, so it suits a quick break as well as a long chase for a high score. It plays with a mouse, a keyboard or a touch screen, in landscape or portrait, and every course is built so there is always a way through.

How to play

  1. Press Play, then hold the mouse button, a finger or Space to start.
  2. Hold to glow and rise. Let go to glide down. Short taps keep you level.
  3. Catch blue fireflies to refill your light and add to your score.
  4. Catch them one after another to build a combo, up to x5.
  5. Avoid branches, vines, webs, owls and puddles. One touch ends the run.
  6. Collect fireflies across runs to unlock new glow colors on the title screen.

Tips

  • Short taps keep you level and save light. Long holds climb fast but burn energy.
  • Fly through trails of blue fireflies to keep your light big and your combo going.
  • An owl's yellow eyes glow in the dark, so you can spot it early even when your light is small.
  • The forest floor is safe to skim, but puddles are not. Lift off before the water.
  • When the light bar blinks red, go after the nearest fireflies.

Questions

Is Firefly Drift free?

Yes. It's free to play in your browser, with no account and no download.

Does it work on phones?

Yes. Tap and hold anywhere on the screen to glow. It plays in portrait and landscape, and portrait gives you a taller forest.

What happens when my light runs out?

You can still fly, but your glow shrinks to a small circle and obstacles get harder to see. Catch blue fireflies to make it bright again.

How do I unlock new glow colors?

Collect fireflies across all your runs. New colors unlock at 50, 150, 400 and 800 fireflies in total. Pick your color on the title screen.

Is my progress saved?

Yes. Your best score, total fireflies and chosen glow are saved in your browser on this device.
